The quick answer. In 14 days, do not try to cover all Vietnam. Choose one route: north for Hanoi, Ninh Binh and the bay; central Vietnam for Hue, Hoi An and Da Nang; or south for Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong Delta and a beach only when conditions fit. Each route uses just two or three bases and ends near the departure airport.
These plans assume an arrival in the morning or afternoon on day 1 and an evening departure on day 14. A late arrival is for check-in, nearby food and sleep only.

Check the regional season before booking; the forecast for your week matters more than a climate average for cruises, islands and mountains.

If the bay is closed or weather is poor, keep the days in Ninh Binh and Hanoi. Do not replace it with a cross-country flight at the last moment.

When sea conditions are poor, keep more days in the city and delta rather than fighting ferry or operator warnings.
If you have ten days
Keep Hanoi + Ninh Binh in the north; Hoi An + Da Nang or Hue + Da Nang in the centre; Ho Chi Minh City + either the delta or one beach base in the south. Remove the third base first.
Booking order
- International flights, then first and final night.
- Long domestic transport with a buffer before the outbound international flight.
- Accommodation by base and sea activities with clear cancellation.
- Seven to ten days before travel, recheck forecast, warnings, luggage and transfers.
