Nha Trang Beaches and Islands: Which Should You Choose?

Nha Trang Beaches and Islands: Which Should You Choose?

Swim in the morning, have breakfast at a café and explore the city. Or head to a long sandy shore and stay until evening without rushing. Or stay on an island where no busy road separates your hotel from the sea. All these holidays are possible in Nha Trang, but they call for different places.

Central Beach (Tran Phu)

The central beach's great advantage is the sea in the middle of the city. It follows Trần Phú Street, with hotels, cafés and restaurants behind the sand and promenade. Come for an hour's swim, have breakfast nearby and return for an evening walk.

Early morning is a particularly interesting time on the promenade. Local people swim, run and do exercises: the city is already awake while many holidaymakers are still asleep. By midday the sand becomes hot. During the hottest hours, returning to your hotel or sitting in a café is more appealing than lying without shade.

A busy road runs between the hotels and the sea. A beachfront address in the centre usually means looking across the seafront at the beach, rather than stepping straight onto the sand. Do not assume everyone will stop at a pedestrian crossing. Havana Nha Trang has an underpass to the beach; if you have a pushchair, convenient access down matters too.

Central Beach suits those who enjoy alternating swimming, cafés and walks. Sunbeds and services at beach venues cost extra. Our complete Nha Trang guide will help you choose an area to stay and plan the rest of your visit.

Northern Beaches

In the north, the shore follows Phạm Văn Đồng Street around Hòn Chồng and continues along the coast. Apartments here are often rented for a month or longer; familiar landmarks include Mường Thanh Oceanus and Scenia Bay.

While the central beach fits naturally into a walk through tourist Nha Trang, a northern beach is best chosen together with your accommodation. Find the right home and your morning swim needs no journey. But a bay view and a convenient place to enter the water below your building are different things.

The shoreline varies. Before renting an apartment, walk from the entrance to the sea and look at the water access, shade and nearby cafés. This tells you more about your future stay than a balcony photograph. The north can be noisy too, and its water is not always calmer than in the centre: the stretch of shore and the weather both matter.

The Beach by Do Theatre (Bai Tien)

One of Nha Trang's most beautiful beaches is right beside Đó Theatre on the northern edge of the city, in the Bãi Tiên area. Tourists still know it much less well than Central Beach or Dốc Lết. It deserves a visit for the sea itself: a beautiful shore, calm water and free admission.

In my experience, there are no waves here. Come for a few hours, swim and sit by the water. A taxi is an easy independent option; use Đó Theatre as your landmark. You do not need a performance ticket to visit the beach.

There is a café and there are sunbeds on the shore. As far as I remember, you can use a sunbed if you order something at the café.

Marina Beach Club at Ana Marina

Another beautiful spot in the north is Marina Beach Club at Ana Marina yacht harbour, on Nguyễn Cơ Thạch Street. It is a small bay with very clean, beautiful water. In my experience, it has no waves, which makes this beach particularly appealing for a trip with children.

The club charges a fixed admission fee that includes a sunbed; towels are also available. There is a restaurant and a relaxation area, so it is convenient to come for a few hours, swim and have lunch.

The beach itself is small and can get quite crowded at weekends. Choose a weekday for a quieter family visit. We discuss transport, accommodation and other family arrangements in Vietnam with Children.

Bai Dai and Cam Ranh Resorts

Bãi Dài is south of Nha Trang, on the way to Cam Ranh Airport. This is a long sandy coastline with resort hotels. The nearest part is around 25 km from the city; allow about an hour to reach your chosen beach or hotel.

It makes a good full-day outing: settle by the sea, have lunch and return to the beach. Central Beach is more convenient for a quick swim before breakfast. You can reach Bãi Dài independently by taxi or with a hired driver, without a tour.

Choose a specific place on the shore with the facilities you need: shade, a shower, a sunbed, lunch or a pool. Resort grounds have their own access rules; you cannot simply walk through any hotel and occupy its sunbed.

For example, Mövenpick Resort Cam Ranh offers a day package for VND 500,000 per adult: beach, pool, water slides and water park access, plus VND 400,000 for food and drinks. The rope park is excluded. Arrange your visit a day ahead; the voucher is non-refundable and not valid on public holidays. Mövenpick day package.

You can also stay on Bãi Dài, for example at Mövenpick or Radisson Blu. The beach, pool and resort grounds then become the focus of your holiday, while walks in Nha Trang require separate trips. Your meal plan matters: you may not have the city's variety of cafés just steps from your room.

For a ten-to-fourteen-day holiday, it is convenient to split your stay: first live in Nha Trang and explore the city, then move to a resort. When the surf is strong, the pool is useful and sea swimming has to wait. Our Vietnam beach club overview covers other ways to spend time by the water.

Doc Let

For pale sand and a long stretch of shallow water, head to Dốc Lết, north of Nha Trang in the Ninh Hòa area. This is a day trip: the distance is roughly 40–60 km depending on the stretch you choose. Allow around an hour and a half each way, with some time in reserve.

The gradual entry is Dốc Lết's main distinction and the reason families often come here. Spend several hours by the water so the journey does not take up most of your outing. Shallow water does not, however, rule out waves.

Come by taxi or with a driver. For a visit without an overnight stay, choose somewhere with shade, showers and lunch. Admission and facilities are charged according to the particular property's terms.

If your child soon gets bored with swimming alone, TTC Van Phong Aqua Park operates beside TTC Van Phong Bay Resort. Combine the beach with water attractions and lunch at Phoenix Garden restaurant. Water park admission and use of hotel facilities may have different terms: your package needs to include the areas you want.

You do not have to go to Dốc Lết just to see another beach. If the sea near your accommodation is good, stay in the city. But for a change of scene, pale sand and a long day in the shallows, it makes a worthwhile outing.

Hon Tre and Vinpearl Beaches

The islands near Nha Trang offer a different setting: sand, greenery and hills instead of a city road behind you. The difference is particularly noticeable if you stay right by the sea.

Hòn Tre, opposite the southern part of the city, is often simply called Vinpearl. But it contains several different places: Vinpearl hotels, VinWonders amusement park and the Vinpearl Harbour promenade area with restaurants and shops.

The island's Vinpearl hotels have magnificent beaches: pale sand, greenery and direct access to the water from their grounds. Vinpearl Resort Nha Trang and Vinpearl Resort & Spa Nha Trang Bay, for example, have their own beaches. Consider them alongside Cam Ranh resorts for a seaside holiday.

Spend your days between the beach, pool and restaurant. When choosing accommodation, the meal plan and transfer all the way to your hotel matter. For a family with a small child, so does the water entry: beautiful sand does not necessarily mean a long shallow stretch like Dốc Lết.

For an independent visit to the island, take the cable car. The mainland station is around 4–5 km from the centre, and the crossing above the bay takes about eight minutes. A return journey for a Harbour visit costs approximately VND 200,000.

But the cable car does not open every beach on the island. A day at a hotel beach requires access to that specific property; a park ticket or a walk around Harbour does not replace it. The park and Harbour provide things to do beyond the sea if you stay on Hòn Tre.

Hon Tam: Beach and Mud Baths

Hòn Tằm suits a day that combines the sea, a pool and mud baths. The island is around 7 km southeast of Nha Trang; the speedboat crossing from the pier takes about ten minutes. Including the journey through the city, boarding and time to relax, allow most of a day.

There is a sandy shore, greenery and equipped relaxation areas. Spend the day on one island without constantly packing up and moving on. You do not need a multi-island tour: a suitable day package with boat transport is enough.

Do not confuse a beach day with a visit to the mud bath complex. Mudbath 3 at VND 450,000 per adult includes mud and mineral baths and a return boat transfer. Mudbath 1 at VND 650,000 adds lunch. SeaMud VVIP 1 at VND 1,030,000 lists beach zones A and B, buffet lunch, treatments and sea transport. Hon Tam packages.

If the sea is your reason for going, choose a package that includes the beach. A lunch-inclusive option is convenient for families; the boarding point and return departure should be in your booking confirmation.

You can also stay on Hòn Tằm at Hon Tam Resort. That is an island holiday rather than a few hours on a day ticket. Strong seas can change or cancel the boat outing.

Snorkelling and Hon Mun

If you want to see fish and coral, choose a boat trip with stops for snorkelling. Hòn Mun, known for its reefs and dark rocks, lies around 10 km from Cầu Đá port. You will spend most of this kind of day on the boat and in the water, rather than on sand.

Allow from early morning until around 14:00, including travel and snorkelling stops.

Hòn Mun's waters are protected: swimming and diving restrictions have been introduced to restore the reefs. A tour name does not mean unrestricted access to every reef or landing on the island. The programme should specify a permitted site; if you want a beach too, it should be a separate stop.

When to Come for the Sea

Nha Trang's drier period is usually roughly January–August, with the rainy season from September to December. For a first beach holiday, consider March–June, before the especially hot months of July and August.

But the sea does not change on a single calendar date. Some autumns have been almost dry; in other years the rain has continued into spring and even May. Rain can end before the heavy surf does.

Bad weather changes conditions even in sheltered bays. Rain and rough seas can make the water cloudy and wash rubbish ashore. Photographs help you choose a place, but water conditions need to be assessed during your own stay.

Keep a few possible dates for an island outing and read the rescheduling terms if sailing is cancelled. When the sea is rough, visit mainland mineral springs and mud baths, such as I-Resort or Tháp Bà: no boat is needed. In rainy months it is particularly pleasant to have a hotel with things to do beyond the beach; a heated pool is useful in winter.
