Hoi An Events
An evening walk in Hoi An can become a cultural outing almost by itself: lanterns glow above the streets, folk music carries along the river and live bands bring people together at the beach. The city has large productions and much smaller gatherings. Hoi An’s events calendar brings together Vietnamese celebrations, concerts, stage performances, creative classes and meetups for short-stay travellers and people who have made a home here.
Lantern nights and Old Town celebrations
One distinctive local tradition is Hoi An Legendary Night, held on the evening of the 14th day of each lunar month. Lanterns and traditional activities recreate scenes of the old trading town. Along the Hoai River, visitors can discover bài chòi, a performance that combines folk singing, playful improvisation and a card game involving the audience.
A separate occasion in the annual calendar is Tết Trung Thu, the Mid-Autumn Festival. Children carry lanterns in processions, while drums and lion dances fill streets and appear outside temples and shops. Local cultural programmes and festival days offer further reasons to linger. Lunar dates shift against the Gregorian calendar, so check the actual date and programme before travelling rather than relying on a festival name alone.
Large shows, live music and hands-on workshops
Hoi An Memories tells the story of the trading port through ensemble dance scenes, music, costumes and lighting on an outdoor stage. Smaller seaside gigs offer another kind of evening: Soul Kitchen at An Bang Beach, for example, hosts bands playing blues, rock and jazz. Check a venue’s latest announcement for artists, tickets, table reservations and any weather-related changes.
Hoi An’s craft traditions also lend themselves to events where visitors make something: assembling a lantern, trying pottery or learning to cook local dishes. Painting classes, creative gatherings and family workshops can add to the mix. Practical details matter: the teaching language, participant ages, duration and whether materials are included in the price. These are especially useful when a session has limited group places.
Community meetups and free event listings
Residents and long-stay visitors can create a calendar of their own. A café meetup, book club, board games, acoustic evening, yoga session or discussion walk can begin with one person and a simple invitation. For an international gathering, state the working language and any registration requirement upfront so newcomers know how to join.
You can publish information about your own Hoi An event on this website for free. Cultural venues, musicians, instructors and organisers of small private gatherings can all submit a listing. Choose the Events type and Hoi An location, then add the date, exact venue, language, participation fee and contact details. If places require registration, explain how to book.
Current Hoi An listings appear below the article. The block heading and the link to the full list open all matching announcements, where you can read individual event details. The calendar reflects published listings and updates as new events are added.
