The Imperial City (Đại Nội) is the palace precinct within Hue Citadel, seat of the Nguyen dynasty from 1802 to 1945. It forms part of the Complex of Hue Monuments, a UNESCO World Heritage property. The wider complex extends beyond the citadel and includes royal tombs and temples elsewhere.

Start at Ngo Mon Gate, then explore Thai Hoa Palace, the courtyards and ancestral temples. The Forbidden Purple City contains both surviving ruins and restored buildings. Areas may close temporarily for conservation, so check access and visiting hours before you go.

Wear comfortable shoes and bring sun protection. Follow dress and photography rules at active places of worship. Under the tariff effective 4 January 2026, admission to the Imperial City is VND 200,000 for adults and VND 40,000 for children aged 7–12. Confirm current terms and any combo-ticket options before travelling.
