Hoi An is a living historic town and trading port dating from the 15th to the 19th century. Its narrow streets preserve timber houses, pagodas, assembly halls and old shops; the architecture reflects local, Chinese and Japanese influences. UNESCO inscribed the town on its World Heritage List in 1999.
Walk along the Thu Bon River and visit the Japanese Covered Bridge, merchant houses and assembly halls. Workshops and architectural details stand out by day; colourful lanterns light the old quarter after sunset.
The Heritage Center's 28 January 2026 notice lists tickets at 80,000 and 120,000 VND. The first covers the townscape and three monuments under its scheme; the second adds a museum and expands the selection to five monuments. Tickets remain valid for up to three days. Confirm current rules and included sites before visiting. Some scheduled cultural performances are also included.
Pedestrian hours restrict vehicles: the old town from 09:00 until 21:00/21:30 depending on season, and Phan Châu Trinh Street in the evening. Hoi An is best explored on foot; taxis and transfers connect it with Da Nang.
